Automatically Finds Sensitive Information
Deep6 is an automatic, customizable redaction tool that reads through pdf or text files and highlights privacy information, such as names, street addresses, city/state/zip information, telephone numbers, social security numbers, email addresses. The user has the option of customizing its knowledge base (1) to preserve names or other text that one does not wish to redact, or (2) to delete custom text or unknown names--there are a lot of unusual and foreign names appearing! The highly sophisticated knowledge base can be further modified to highlight other FOIA exemptions or proprietary information--it could be used to spot anything from the location of oil wells to Secret Restricted Data for the nuclear community.
Permanently Deletes Hidden Text
When using Deep6, one sees the highlighted text and can decide to redact it or to unselect it. When the user is satisfied, the "Redact" button is pressed; and all the information to be redacted is permanently deleted--including the hidden text! The deleted text cannot be recovered; thus, the file is safe for electronic transfer or posting on the Web.
